Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop January 2022 - Decorative Borders

The Scrapbooking Global Team is comprised of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in a scrapbooking Blog Hop Theme, like this one, to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our Goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.

Today's theme for Decorative Borders is brought to you by Sherry Roth.

I'm back to my favorite subject to scrapbook, my granddaughter. More often than not, the photo inspires my layout. In this instance, I ended up figuring out what to do with my border theme first and then selected the photo I thought fit best with the border.

I was searching through Pinterest, a favorite site to look for ideas, and saw a patchwork type of layout that had stitching on it. I do not sew/stitch, but it got me thinking how could I used the stitched dies to give it that look? I also recalled that I recently created a bunch of square like paper scraps from creating cards and thought maybe I had enough to use in a layout. I pulled out all my scraps, started die cutting with the smallest shape in the Stitched rectangle dies and I had enough to create the border!!

Once the border was done, that's when I recalled this photo of my granddaughter at the Teddy Bear Park. I thought it was neutral enough to work with all the different patterns/colors in the paper squares. However, it still needed something behind the photo and in the blank space around it. The Polished Pink DSP color worked best. Looking through my new stamp sets I recently bought for sentiments or decorative stamping options, the Calming Camellia was perfect. Note: This set is free to the host with an order or workshop of $300 or more! I recall seeing the curly que image and I absolutely loved the sentiments. Pool Party seemed to be the other best color to compliment the layout and so I stamped 2 colors each in the corners.

I also thought it needed some ink flecks and decided to use my black marker to fleck some off the tip with the cap. This allows for smaller, random flecks. The sentiments are inked in black onto pool party paper that I trimmed and laid as a diamond, keeping with the background to the photo.

Last but not least, I added some in-color gems and basic rhinestones. I'm really pleased with how this layout turned out along with figuring out another way to use up scraps that don't seem to get used, yet I can't make myself toss them- LOL

Now Let's dig into more collaborative fun. Grab a beverage, sit back, and enjoy the hop! I hope you find awesome ideas and inspiration for your projects.
