Technique Tuesday - September 2022 - Two Step Stamping Blog Hop

The Crafty Collaborations Team is comprised of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in several collaborative projects, including Blog Hops, like this one to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our Goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.

Today is the monthly Technique Tuesday featuring two step stamping.

What is Two Step Stamping?
It simply means using two or more stamps to create one image.  Doesn't matter if it is two, three, eighteen – it's all two step stamping. When it comes to the outcome, it usually means more texture, more color, more depth – all by using the same stamps and inks that we use for everyday paper crafting.  No crazy art skills needed.

Stampin Up Two Step Stamping
There are several ways that Stampin Up has indicated that it is a Two Step Stamp Set.  But let me warn you, you might need your cheater glasses to see one of them. The last stamp case revision, it got changed to the world's smallest font that just says two-stamp in the lower right corner of the stamp cover.  It is also listed in the catalog in the product description.

How To Steps:
Step 1:  Stamping Your Outline Image
Everyone does this a little bit different, but my hands-down-most-favorite-way to do this is to start with the outline image first, and then add in your fillers. I chose to use 4 different inks for the outline of my coffee cup. Here is a photo of the soft suede.

Step 2:  Add One Color
My image is simple because the coffee color is just one stamp, but again I chose to use the 4 different inks that look like various coffee colors. This is the soft suede, but I stamped off first so it was not soo dark.

Tools For Two Step Stamping
The best “tool” is honestly a good photopolymer stamp on the acrylic block. These are the clear stamps.  You can see right through your acrylic block and line it up that way.  It's not fail proof, by any means, but this coffee 2-step stamp really is pretty easy to line up.

For more complex two step stamping, I turn to the Stamparatus. This is a top favorite tool of mine from Stampin Up that is a positioning tool. Hinge Stamping is one of several techniques you can do with this tool. Basically you put your stamp where you want it – I always recommend using either a scratch piece of paper or a laminated grid sheet to make sure you have it all lined up, close your lid to pick up your stamp and then ink, stamp, and done!  Line up the 2nd stamp of your two step process and you have the perfect line up every time you go to stamp it. You can use your Stamparatus with clear mount and photopolymer stamps.

The finished product! Nothing Better Than is really a favorite bundle of mine, although I did not die cut anything in this card, the die cuts are a perfect companion with this set. I highly recommend ordering this bundle before the annual catalog ends on or about 5/1/2023.
