Share It Sunday November 2021 - Holiday Seasonal Sampler featuring Painted Christmas Suite

The Crafty Collaborations Team is comprised of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in several collaborative projects, including Blog Hops, like this one to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our Goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.

Today features the 'monthly Share It Sunday' projects where the team shares any project that have been working on.

I decided to put together the Squares I received from a Sampler Swap I participated in. Wondering what is a SAMPLER or a Swap?

You may have seen Samplers on Pinterest. They use cardstock layers with stamped/die cut/punched elements in lovely Home décor pieces, often for the holidays or season of the year. A theme is selected so the elements coordinate with each other.  When you receive a 'square design' from everyone (9 for an 8x8 frame, 16 for a 12 x 12 from), you can assemble them into a Home décor piece as desired.

Swapping is a great option for this type of project. I typically sign up for card swaps to get cards using products from a new catalog so I can share ideas from different products. In a Sampler, a swap works great because you don't have to come up with a design for all the different squares. Each of the creators that sign up to participate make enough of their square design and mail them to each participant.

I've heard demonstrators holding classes to create these design pieces as well. If I have enough interest, I will work on creating a class to create an 8 x 8 Sampler.

Other Details on making your sampler square:
___ create a 2" square to represent the theme.
___ mat the square with 2-1/4" square of coordinating cardstock.
___ if using DSP - it MUST be the DSP from the suite selected.
___ use colors (cardstock & ink) that coordinate with the DSP (Real Red, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Soft Succulent, Garden Green, Evening Evergreen, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Seafoam, Cherry Cobbler.)
___ you may use other products (punches/dies, embellishments, etc,) as long as they fit the theme and match the color scheme and are not retired products.

Since I did not have this suite, I used elements from the Sparkle of the Season bundle. The pine cones and pine bough stamp from the set fit well with the Painted Christmas products.

Assembling the layout:
  • Box frames work best as they allow room for the raised elements on your square. Many local retail craft stores sell sets of 8 x 8, 12x12 and other sizes.
  • Leave a 1/2' border around your base layer so the sample pieces are not covered by the frame. I used two layers, Real Red on the Bottom and A design from the Ever Eden Designer Series Paper
  • Play with your sample pieces on how you want to lay them out. This is probably the hardest part since there are so many choices on how you might arrange them.
  • I use Seal nd Multipurpose Glue to adhere the squares and paper layers. Dimensionals are an option as well.
I hope you are inspired to give a sampler a try. They are really fun to have on your wall for the holidays. Now Let's dig into more collaborative fun, Grab a beverage, sit back, and enjoy the hop! I hope you find additional ideas for your projects.
